1000 Deshi Entrepreneurs Program, Maharashtra and Karnataka

  • The first year pilot program (2009-10) which was implemented in one district was a great success where 25 village women were given financial and business management training which included a mentor guidance and a formal Buisness management curriculam which is specifically designed taking into consideration the rural business setup.
  • The progress of each individual was tracked over a the period of this program ( 1 year) and at the end of the year there was a formal graduation ceremony.
  • Mrs. Sujata Mane a graduate of the pilot program had a small business of making masalas, making noodles, sewing and a small store. After the workshop, she added a coconut barfi making business and the store was expanded to include sales of candy and soap! Her earnings doubled after taking the pilot program.
  • Ms. Shobha Raut- a graduate of the pilot program used to have a small "sundries" shop before; after the program she has expanded her store to include women’s clothing and accessories and currently is serving as mentor to other women entrepreneurs now.
  • Project Impact

  • This project has a long term goal of covering around 1000 individual (deshi women entrepreneurs) spanning more than 100 households per village and covering 196 villages.
