SATHI is an action centre of Anusandhan Trust aiming shape a society with the right to health and healthcare. Realizing the vital role played by Community Health Workers(CHWs) in the rural areas, SATHI carried out CHW training in five districts in Maharashta, as part of the ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) program which aims to place 1 CHW for every thousand people in targeted states. SATHI has developed a well-founded and engaging training program that aims to improve access to first-contact care and public health facilities within adivasi areas through the well-trained ASHA conduit. The manuals developed by SATHI have been approved by the Government and are being distributed to the ASHAs statewide. With the help of funding from AID, SATHI and other NGOs have trained approximately 250 ASHAs in Maharashtra, supplementing the existing framework supported by the government. Other AID-funded activities included finalizing training material, engaging field organizers and organizing a state-level convention of ASHAs and NGOs to facilitate both specific and broad discussions at multiple levels about the role of ASHAs in adivasi communities. The relationship between SATHI and AID Seattle has facilitated critical learning in various issues, especially regarding the health sector.
